OUGD502 DESIGN STRATEGY PRESENTATION & EVALUATION

The Brief:
Produce and present a 7-10 minute Powerpoint/PDF presentation that communicates a reflective summary of your experiences on the course to date. You should aim to reflect on who you are as a learner and a designer as well as how the things you have experienced over the past two years have affected your current aims and ambitions. You should also identify creative concerns, personal aims and professional ambitions that you intend to explore further over the Summer and during Level 6 of the programme.

The presentation should additionally incorporate your personal and revised self-branding. Then continuing from your logo and identity as created in Level 4 you must have assessed, evaluated, adapted and further developed your own brand as a designer and, in addition to its prominence within your presentation, you should also look to apply this in ways that you feel are most appropriate. These could include, but are in no way limited to:

YOUR VISUAL IDENTITY.

Your own professional visual identity for 'Brand You' that, if appropriate to your practice, could be distributed via an appropriate range of stationary and promotional material. For this element, you should aim to create a simple but effective visual identity that communicates the essence of your creative 'image' and details about your emerging design practice. You will need to consider the practicalities of your identity which may include a logo or bespoke typeface. How readable, legible and usable is your identity?

YOUR PROMO PACK.

A promotional package that communicates your skills, abilities creative concerns and professional competencies to appropriate sectors of the creative and cultural industries. This pack could include a business card, introductory information, samples of work a creative CV, contact details and other relevant material and information

YOUR WEBSITE.

You may propose/produce the structure and content of your own personal website. Keep it simple and make sure that your visual identity forms the basis of your online brand.

Ensure that the redevelopment of your branding plus any design outputs featuring the deployment of your identity is documented on your PPP blog.
Background

Your presentation should aim to explore some of the following aspects of your creative practice:
Research and practice: Reflect on how you see the relationship between research and practice and what ideas, theories, books, etc. you have found particularly relevant to your own creative development.
Disciplinary interests: Discuss any specific areas of graphic design that you have developed a particular interest in or aspire to practice as a professional (e.g. web design, typeface design, etc.).
Where do you see yourself in one, two or five years time?
Which designers/studios that you have researched for your PPP Blog are proving especially influential regarding the ambitions for your own future practice?
What plans do you have in respect to gaining further work experience?
Mandatory Requirements

Your presentation should be delivered professionally using appropriate language and visuals.
Evidence of your presentation should be posted to your PPP blog.
Please include your slides/pdf with your submitted work.
Deliverables

The presentation will be no longer than 10 mins long.
You should use appropriate visual aids to support your presentation.
Evidence of the research and development of your presentation and visual material should be posted to your PPP blog and labelled with the module code. You should also also post PDF versions of your presentation, notes and handouts to your PPP blog. In turn, your blog posts should also be exported and submitted as a PDF.

My understanding of the brief:

For this brief I must produce a 7-10 minute presentation which reflects on who I am now as a creative, what inspires my practice, what my inspiration is, my aims and ambitions, both personally and professionally, where I see myself in the future and what my plans for work experience are. This should all be tied together with the personal rebranding.

My presentation:

Evaluation

I was quite pleased with the way my presentation went, as I felt fairly relaxed presenting, which is new for me. I was semi confident talking about my presentation, more so with some things than others. I wish I had commented that I love colour and this was the reasoning behind the Brusho colours, and talked more about my instagram account that I created for my work as well, as I didn't include anything about a website. I should also of commented more on the creative organisation side of things, which is also what I'm interested in alongside magazine and web design, as it was briefly included in the presentation but not talked about. One comment that was really helpful was to take a little package, business card or sample of work to different creatives whilst I'm in America, to make the most of getting my work out there whilst I'm over there. This is something that didn't even occur to me but is a really good idea. They also suggested to make the most of being British, to wrap in in Union Jack things. However someone else also commented that I have the whole South America side to be as well being half Brasilian, so to also use that to my advantage. Perhaps I could do something with the colours of the flags of each country in watercolours or Brusho, maybe adding detail using fine liners, to highlight the two sides to me that are completely contrasting.

Next steps
My next stage will be to look at the itinerary for America and see when there is free time to drop something off at a studio or creative agency, and then find creative agencies in those areas that I am interested in to drop work off at. Towards the end of the year I should start producing a little package maybe of business cards, work samples and something extra, maybe an ornament or key ring?
I also want to develop a website, as at the moment mine is on weebly, however it is really hard to use, and I noticed a lot of people used Cargo Collective for their website, so perhaps this would be worth checking out.
