OUGD502 LUIS BARRAGAN

Luis Barragán, Mexican architect and master of colour "I think that the ideal space must contain elements of magic, serenity, sorcery and mystery."
Posted on Facebook by Design Museum.

This is a beautiful photograph of one of Barragan's pieces of work, with the water reflecting the vibrant pink wall, and a horse slinking through the doorway, so small you could easily miss it and just see the pink. It creates a real sense of calm and relaxation, taking everything in your stride with ease, not a care in the world, which is a lovely way to live, unrealistic but a lovely thought. Without the pink wall, this photograph would be a lovely pool of water and some green trees in the background, but what this wall does is separate these two things, creating a divide, which results in a kind of stripe going, blue sky, green trees, pink wall, water, which produces a strong structure to this image. What's also interesting, is the contrast between the really clean, sleek lines of the water pool and the wall compared to the horse and trees beyond. It's almost as if you'd expect a stables or cute little cottage to be there, instead you get concrete and a splash of pink. I suppose this adds excitement to a could be rather ordinary scene. Either way, fabulous!
