OUGD402 PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EVALUTAION

This has been both a very enjoyable module and also a very challenging and enlightening one as well, as I have thoroughly enjoyed finding out about new artists or designers, or visiting exhibitions which I took something away from, yet I found producing a unisex design for my business cards which reflects my personality and creative style rather challenging, as I discovered that the majority of my work leans towards the feminine side, which is something I don’t want it to do, as I want my work to appear neutral to appeal to a wider range of people.
I think my strengths in this project have been in producing the outcomes for Studio Brief 2, as I feel I started these early on giving me the best chance of finishing them in good time, meaning I didn’t have to rush too much towards the end of the module. The creative resume was definitely my weakest point though, as I couldn’t find a good layout for the front of the resume to start with, so the information looked oddly placed and forced, and then I found it really hard to produce a unisex pattern for the back of the resume, which was something I experimented with right up until the last minute to try and get the best results I could. I’m not sure why I found it so challenging, I think perhaps it could be because a lot of my work is feminine, so producing something that reflects my style but is unisex was a tricky balance.

Whilst I was writing my presentation for Studio Brief 3, I also realised that in fact I wasn’t confident with a lot of my work, or in the areas I wanted to be, so I think over summer I should really knuckle down and practice the style I want to produce work in, or producing different outcomes for different clients, so that I get more practice producing editorial designs for example, or logos. I also discovered that although I am enjoying the course a lot, for a career I don’t want to be sat at a desk all day every day, as I enjoy being outside, and I enjoyed doing the printing and book binding workshops, being more physically creative rather than producing everything digitally. I am not sure what sort of career this would lead to, but I’m relatively sure I don’t want to work in a design studio for any extended period of time, so I found it hard to research places where I would want to work, as I’m not sure what exactly is available.
