OUGD502 STUDIO BRIEF TWO - LEVEL 4 LOGO/BRAND EVALUATION & DESIGN STRATEGY PRESENTATION

To develop with my level 5 branding, I first have to evaluate my level 4 branding, to see what I think of it a year on, is this still me as a creative professional? Is this how I want to be represented to the industry? What changes do I want to make? What influences me now compared to then? How does this reflect my position or future aspirations in the creative industry?

Level 4 Branding:

I still really like the textures the mono printing created, however it looks too structured now too forced with the circle in the middle and cut, straight lines. The typeface choice for BEX is also a little too rounded at the terminals, something more POW but still friendly is needed.
The colour blue? I was trying to get away from the pink being girly appearance, however I think I've gone too opposite, and look like a cute baby boy instead. Perhaps more of a green colour would be interesting? Along with something contrasting? I have a great interest in Brusho powder at the moment, which creates striking colours, maybe this could be an option for colour application?
I have called myself Rebekkah on the back, as this is my full name, however if I was to introduce myself to somebody, I would use Becky instead. I think I should use Becky instead of Rebekkah therefore.
Also, I have a website address on there, one which I never update as I don't really know how to use the website properly, perhaps addressing another platform to which I can update on the go, such as Instagram or Facebook would be more appropriate. This also allows people to interact with it online.
I still would like to keep the name BEX, as I think it has a great punch to it, and sits well on a business card. However, perhaps I could experiment with different typefaces, and lowercase as well, to see what effect this has on the aesthetic.
I have called myself a Creative Individual, and although creative is correct, putting individual out there sounds like to I like to work alone, am not a very sociable to interactive person, which can definitely have negative connotations. This should be reworded, perhaps even just using "Creative" on it's own.

What do I like as a creative?
Travel photography
Unique architecture
Lingerie & Lingerie photography (Dullife Lingerie, Hopeless Lingerie, RR Lingerie etc)
The freedom and bold colours of watercolours, Brusho powder
Web design, how you interact with it, how it moves
Seeing things that I like and putting them all together (collage)
Cutting and sticking from magazines

Where do I want to go in my career?
Web design
Magazine creative editor/director
Travel to potential destinations, visit clients, go to events, not just sit behind a desk
Apply analogue techniques to a digital outcome
Have the ability to work and live in different countries initially
Have a stable income, not one that fluctuates with work

Personal aims over summer:
Make the most of my trip to America
Explore as many places as possible
Organise myself massively

Professional aims over summer:
Get relevant work experience to get a better understanding of what its like to work in different areas of the creative industry I'm interested in
Contact different creatives, just to ask one or two questions, but to find out more about the industry

Ideas, theories, books relevant to development:
Amuse digital magazine
Bear's Den website design brief
Creative Report, talking to Dullife Lingerie and Underground Undies

Specific areas of graphic design I'm interested in:
Web design

Where do I see myself in 1, 2 & 5 years?
1 year: honing down where I want to work when I graduate. Have companies in mind that I've already contacted, and potentially have done work placements for. Have a plan for summer, travelling, work placements, getting a job.
2 years: Have a job in the creative industries, in an areas I am interested in. Maybe be working from different countries, wherever work takes me.
5 years: Starting to have a good grounding in the industry I am passionate about, and know what direction I want to continue in. Be based in a location I am comfortable in, or be looking to settle down in a convenient and liked location.

Which designers/studios I've researched are proving influential?
Amuse digital magazine

Plans for work experience:
Contacting a relative whose friend works in Empire Magazine
Maybe contacting Only Studio in Leeds to experience web design
Find work experience in Birmingham in creative management area

Next steps:
Taking all of these things into considerations I should adapt my branding accordingly, and take steps to achieve these aims. This will all be compiled into a presentation.
